i remember the first time i tasted a david glass cake

i thought i was in heaven. yes, it was THAT good. i can't even describe it so i'm not even going to try.

i've since become vegan so his cakes are no longer an option. however, i am ever so saddened by this news. it just should NOT be. if you WERE going to buy a cheesecake, you SHOULD have spent the money on HIS. i don't even like cheesecake and yet, i had an orgasmic experience

(i think the first time i had a piece of his cake he ONLY made cheesecakes. now i think he has a few more types)

Legendary Cake Maker, David Glass, Closing Shop

David Glass cakes have graced stomachs from Connecticut to the White House

By LEANNE GENDREAU

Just the mention of a David Glass cake makes mouths water, but the legendary maker of high-end desserts is going out of business.

Desserts by David Glass, a high-end Bloomfield cakery, will close after 28 years, reeling from losing a big wholesale customer, recession and debt, the Hartford Courant reports........

Desserts By David Glass Going Out Of Business
The Hartford Courant

Savor a slice of David Glass cake, and they say you'll never forget the taste.

Now, all that will be left is that memory.

Desserts by David Glass, the iconic, high-end Bloomfield cake purveyor, is going out of business after 28 years, succumbing to the loss of one of its biggest wholesale customers, a recession that crimped spending, and debt that the company could not repay.

The decision to close is a wrenching one for Glass, who started the company in a house on Sargeant Street in Hartford and for years operated under the Blue Onion dome at the Colt Building. He made a name for himself with his signature "Ultimate Chocolate Truffle Cake" and gained rave reviews in New York, launching a brand that became sought after well beyond Connecticut.

Residents of 10 towns served by the Metropolitan District Commission are being advised to boil their drinking water for one minute as a precautionary measure.

The advisory was issued today at the request of the state Department of Public Health for the towns of Bloomfield, Glastonbury, Portland, Windsor, Hartford, East Hartford, West Hartford, South Windsor and parts of East Granby and Windsor Locks. The practice should be followed until further notice, the MDC said in a statement.

The MDC said it is conducting a study to determine why microscopic aquatic organisms called "copepods" and "rotifers" have been detected in the drinking water distribution system coming through the district's Reservoir No. 6 water treatment facility in Bloomfield.

Disabled Veteran In Bloomfield Builds Bikes As He Rebuilds His Life

|The Hartford Courant

BLOOMFIELD — - Brian Tinsley lost a lot that day in Afghanistan.

The bullet that entered one of his temples and exited the other took away his sight, his sense of smell and part of his sense of taste.

But it didn't take away his ability to find a silver lining.

"Someone else might not have survived," said Tinsely.

Tinsley, 25, joined the Army after graduating from Bloomfield High School in 2001. His goal was to serve his country, learn to be a mechanic and take that skill with him back to civilian life. Tinsley was doing both, providing special forces support in 2003, when he was shot.

The bullet also took away his memory of that day.

"I don't have any recollection," he said. "I regained consciousness in Walter Reed Hospital about a month later."

But Tinsley didn't lose his desire to live an independent, productive life.

Tinsley went to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs' Eastern Blind Rehabilitation Center in West Haven to learn how to maintain his mobility and read Braille, and even helped Habitat for Humanity build a house in Hartford.

"It'll drive you nuts if you just sit and do nothing," he said.

Tinsley eventually found his way back to a local bicycle shop he frequented in his youth when he rode stunt bikes. But this time around, he wasn't looking for parts, he was looking for work. Specifically, he wanted to build bikes...........

Tinsley now works at the Bloomfield Bicycle and Repair Shop in Bloomfield and was hired by Mike Wolf, left, owner of the store, who said, "We hope that he'll be with us a long time." Sit'N Knit In West Hartford
Owners Barbara and Richard Fabian of Sit'N Knit in West Hartford have opened their store because there was nothing like it around. With walls and walls of yarn, thousands of different colors and materials, the store can look overwhelming -- but the Fabians said that if you show up with no experience, they'll teach you how to knit for free............

cockfighting in bloomfield

thank the goddess animal control officer christine sparks HEARD the sounds of roosters crowing and investigated.

i'm only sorry this story does NOT have the name of the man who has the warrant out on him. i'd like to know it AND publish it. perhaps if this scum had part of his anatamy surgically removed and fake ones attached he'd learn his lesson

Police Raid Alleged Cockfighting Operation

By CAROLYN MOREAU The Hartford Courant
BLOOMFIELD - Police broke up what they described as a well-organized cockfighting operation in Bloomfield early Thursday morning, seizing 14 roosters and 17 hens. Some of the roosters had had their spurs surgically removed, their combs cut away, and feathers on their legs, rear ends and backs were shaved. Police said that fighting birds regularly have their spurs removed so that artificial metal spurs can be attached. Metal spurs cause more severe injuries in a cockfight and these injuries are more visible to spectators if the lower feathers are removed. Some of the roosters carried scars typically seen in fighting cocks, police said. Police entered the home at 10 Sandra Drive shortly after 6 a.m.. They'd obtained a search warrant after Bloomfield Animal Control Officer Christine Sparks heard the sound of roosters crowing while investigating an unrelated animal control problem on Sandra Drive...........

Missing Teen Found

BY KATIE MELONE, STEVE GOODE and DANIEL P. JONES, The Hartford Courant

BLOOMFIELD -- A 15-year-old Bloomfield girl missing almost a year --and feared murdered -- was found alive Wednesday locked in a tiny room inside the West Hartford home of her father's acquaintance.Authorities made the shocking discovery after pushing aside a dresser, which revealed a door to a locked room under a staircase. Inside sat a pale Danielle Cramer, missing since June 14, 2006.

"Lieutenant, you better get over here," said the officer who opened the door to the hidden room.Detectives were at the Newington Road home of Adam Gault, 41 and his common-law wife, Ann Murphy, 40, to search for DNA and other evidence. They hoped that the findings would eventually lead them to Cramer, Bloomfield police Capt. Jeffrey Blatter said Wednesday during a press conference.........................
