60-Yr. Sentence For 1 Of 6 Accused Of Nailing Man To Death

NORWICH, Conn. -- A judge handed down a 60-year prison sentence Friday to one of six people accused of killing a Norwich man by beating him and pounding nails into his heart and liver.
Michael Pires Sr., 51, received the maximum possible sentence for his murder conviction in the June 2004 death of William Derose, 43, a friend of Pires' son.
Derose was severely beaten, kicked and struck with a dumbbell before 1½-inch nails were pounded into his torso, authorities said. A medical examiner testified during Pires' trial that the nails caused Derose's death...........

I read this in the local rag (who picked it up from the nbc source you link back to)... I can't imagine what is wrong with these people. They must have been high... I don't see someone sober doing something like this to another person.

It's chilling.

makes you want to lock the doors and hide under the desk :(

it IS chilling but i am not sure there is any amount of a substance that will make you non-sober which would push you that way.

it's just beyond me. Incomprehensible. But then I live in scenic New Milford, and we're best known for an infamous torture/killing here too...

scary world out there.

his excuse was he didn't participate he just 'watched'. not that i believe that, but even if i did, he is JUST as guilty

how could someone STAND AND WATCH even?

(which murder happened in scenic new milford?)

the whole 'watched' angle.. psycho. When I got married five years ago I told my (old) neighbors in White Plains (NY) I was moving to where my husband lived, in New Milford ...and the reaction was pretty much the same "OMG IS THAT WHERE THAT POOR GIRL WAS KILLED?". They were referring to the Maryann Measles case (talk about making my skin crawl.. what happend to that kid is unforgiveable. I won't even go into details). About two(?) years ago there were three back to back murders, a woman who worked in a flooring store (unsolved) and a mother and child (killed by the boyfriend/father).

I'm very bummed.. I was trying to find clips on youtube of the Rep Johnson/Murphy debate today (that's my district) and it seems to be unaccessible... bah.

i'm sure the debate will be on youtube shortly so don't be bummed. try my left nutmeg

of course i've heard of maryann measles. i didn't realize that was in new milford.

Coming from CT I must say this was a horrific ordeal and it should never have been taken that far. What drives people to such extremes is concern and protection of their loved ones. Pires had numerous underage children in the house when Derose entered the home forcibly or invited looking for drugs and was told no and thats when it got to be crazy. Derose was known for breaking and entering and was shot by a physician years before, he was a local feen. Yes drugs and alcohol was a factor in this on both sides of the victim and suspects and Im not saying this act was in the right at all. All of those involved had prior legal issues from drug, rape(sexual assault) assault, traffic, etc. There is always more to a story than what is printed. Nobody deserves to be killed in any manner and all the suspect have done their time whether the amount of time given was fair or not they did it. All but the Pires' are out and the one who started the initial beating and raped a girl was let out. Another suspect who hospitalized a 15 year old in a fight a week prior to his part in this was also let out. It is sad to think the world is coming to this.
Generations are effected by this ordeal and their families have to live with it

i do agree with you. there is ALWAYS more to a story
